Zeros of Orthogonal Polynomials Generated by the Geronimus Perturbation of Measures

چکیده
This paper deals with monic orthogonal polynomial sequences (MOPS in short) generated by a Geronimus canonical spectral transformation of a positive Borel measure μ, i.e., 1 (x− c) dμ(x) +Nδ(x− c), for some free parameter N ∈ R+ and shift c. We analyze the behavior of the corresponding MOPS. In particular, we obtain such a behavior when the mass N tends to infinity as well as we characterize the precise values of N such the smallest (respectively, the largest) zero of these MOPS is located outside the support of the original measure μ. When μ is semi-classical, we obtain the ladder operators and the second order linear differential equation satisfied by the Geronimus perturbed MOPS, and we also give an electrostatic interpretation of the zero distribution in terms of a logarithmic potential interaction under the action of an external field. We analyze such an equilibrium problem when the mass point of the perturbation c is located outside the support of μ.

Matrix measures on the unit circle, moment spaces, orthogonal polynomials and the Geronimus relations
We study the moment space corresponding to matrix measures on the unit circle. Moment points are characterized by non-negative definiteness of block Toeplitz matrices. This characterization is used to derive an explicit representation of orthogonal polynomials with respect to matrix measures on the unit circle and to present a geometric definition of canonical moments. It is demonstrated that t...

Let be a positive measure on the real line, with associated orthogonal polynomials fpng. Let Im a 6= 0. Then there is an explicit constant cn such that for all polynomials P of degree at most 2n 2, cn Z 1 1 P (t) jpn (a) pn 1 (t) pn 1 (a) pn (t)j dt = Z P d : In this paper, we provide a self-contained proof of the identity. Moreover, we apply the formula to deduce a weak convergence result, a d...
متن کاملRelative Asymptotics of Orthogonal Polynomials for Perturbed Measures
We survey and present some new results that are related to the behavior of orthogonal polynomials in the plane under small perturbations of the measure of orthogonality. More precisely, we introduce the notion of a polynomially small (PS) perturbation of a measure. Namely, if μ0 ≥ μ1 and {pn(μj , z)}n=0, j = 0, 1, are the associated orthonormal polynomial sequences, then μ0 a PS perturbation of...
متن کاملPerturbation of Orthogonal Polynomials on an Arc of the Unit Circle
Orthogonal polynomials on the unit circle are completely determined by their reflection coefficients through the Szegő recurrences. We assume that the reflection coefficients converge to some complex number a with 0 < |a| < 1. The polynomials then live essentially on the arc { e : α ≤ θ ≤ 2π−α } where cos α 2 def = √ 1− |a|2 with α ∈ (0, π). We analyze the orthogonal polynomials by comparing th...

The Geronimus type identity 1 jIm zj Z 1 1 P (t) jzpn (t) pn 1 (t)j dt = n 1 n Z P (t) d (t) ; valid for all polynomials P of degree 2n 2 has known analogues within the theory of orthogonal rational functions, though apparently unknown in the theory of orthogonal polynomials. We present ne...
